"Green Room everyone! It is time for notes"- Ron Schulz

Okay, folks, we’re back!

We only have a couple of letters today, so you get to hear some random, stream-of-consciousness pondering from me that have occurred since the last edition.

Am I the only one who gets weirded out by hearing that the Red River is flooding?  In North Dakota?  I know that it’s ridiculous for me to think that there should only be the one, real Red River, but still…

I just finished my taxes.  I know that I’m a bit of an odd duck, but I don’t really mind paying taxes because I have hope that one day they will actually be used for our benefit.  And I do appreciate certain things they pay for – like the armed forces (minus the $400 toilet seats, of course).  I’ve always said that I don’t mind paying my property taxes because even though I will never have children to put into the public education system, I don’t want a bunch of ignorant, surly kids running the world in my golden years.  I realize that I don’t always get what I want.

Anyway, my point about taxes, and I do have one, is that even though I appreciate the necessity, Lordy, there must be a better way!

The season at Lyric is over and I’m on hiatus until we start rehearsals again on August 3.  That, of course, means that for the next four months I’ll be running hither and yon dealing with union business.  So far I only have trips (four of them) to New York and St. Louis (maybe this time I’ll actually get to the Gateway Arch, or maybe even Six Flags MidAmerica).  I have to plan and execute a leadership conference in that period of time as well, but I’m beginning to have a suspicion that might actually happen in Chicago.

All right, enough of my ramblings.  First we have a letter from our Producer (for those of you who may not be up on the lingo, Producer is GreenRoomese for President), Stuart John.

Howdy-

Stuart John checking in from the Left Edge.

Apologies, AGAIN, for my absence from the Notes, I am much better at creating sets than social networking.
When I was here last May I was about to start 'Transformers 2' and it kept me occupied through October. We had numerous sets in L.A., but the biggest effort was recreating part of Egypt in the Arizona desert last summer, yes it was very hot!

Since then I helped family in Houston recover from Hurricane Ike and have running sets for a TV series, 'Eleventh Hour' and currently running a pilot at Warner Brothers. I should be back in feature films as soon as SAG settles their foolishness.

Got to run, Late for work, TTFN

Peace and Prayers for all Players,

Hey, Stu Bob, I can’t criticize someone for getting busy and putting off their correspondence.  Particularly since I owe you about three emails.  (Yes, my AOL address is still good.)  And some of you may remember that I put Deborah on hold one time so that I could take out the garbage.  I didn’t call back for four years.  I’d try to forget about that lapse, but she’s never going to let me, so I might as well just deal with it.

Next we have an update from Bill Carter.

Jimmy,

Just wanted everyone know that the school I am affiliated with (Tulsa Community College
) has three students going to D.C. for KCACTF in lighting design, makeup design, and sound design.  As most of you know it is a challenge to get students all the way to the Kennedy Center but to get three in the same year is pretty rare.   They competed with undergrad and graduate students.  This school is excellent.  The Entertainment Technology program is bearing fruit.  The program is intensive with both classroom and hands on instruction in our phenomenal facilities with plenty of production opportunities.  We take pride in our ability to mentor these students on a day to day basis.  We are producing well rounded technical students that constantly amaze me.  Believe me, by the time they leave us they know what they are about.  We have universities coming to us granting free rides to our students and bountiful scholarships. I am hoping that more universities from out of state might be interested in our transfers and more high schools might see us as a great place to start.  Any takers?

Bill Carter

Well folks, anybody want to talk to Bill about what are obviously some talented kids?  Here’s how to do it.  You can send me a note for Bill (or for any Player for that matter) and I’ll forward it to him, or you can send me a note and tell me that you want to talk to him and I’ll get you hooked up.  In case you’ve forgotten, we’ve set a pretty strict Player privacy policy.  I know that most of you don’t care, but some do, and this is a good way to deal with it.

That’s it for this time.

Don’t forget to check the board as you leave!
