GREENROOM NOTES

"Green Room everyone! It is time for notes"- Ron Schulz
Oh, for heaven’s sake! I don’t know how you people put up with me. I just spent ten minutes trying to find the last edition of The Notes, and was completely confused until I finally realized that I had titled the last edition 7-11-07 instead of 9-11-07. Now I suppose you could find something psychological in that, but I really think that it, as Lady Bracknell would say, “is merely carelessness.” How do you ever know what I really mean?
I am happy to report that
I am not, as I feared I would be, writing this from a picket line. Yes, we narrowly avoided a strike at Lyric Opera. I kept thinking, “Oh great! I’m elected President of the union and the first thing that happens is my shop goes on strike. Great labor relations, Jimmy!” Fortunately we were able to come to agreement in time for our season opening night to go on without a hitch. Now I’m trying to get caught up on all the things I neglected while I was sitting at the bargaining table for the last three weeks.
And speaking of getting caught up (nice segue, don’t you think?) we have some letters. Be sure and read all the way through, because we have news of a DFW mini-reunion. But first, Cole Cantleberry checks in with his birthday letter.
Hi Jimmy,
Well it is my turn to wirte in and announce my birthday, although a little late, but still. I turned 23 on Sept 5th of this year. I'm in my final year at Tech and expect to graduate in May with a BFA in Theatre Design. Cat and I are taking an adventure to New Zealand this upcoming year as well. Cat has a faculty job at Massie University in Palmerston North, New Zealand. She is moving soon after her graduation in December and I'll be joining her in July. So.... if there are any players on the kiwi island down under and looking for a tech, give me a shout, cole.cantleberry@ttu.edu. I'd love to see ya!
Second, I'm continuing to be active in USITT this year as the President of the Student chapter and would like to invite the other players to a small reunion at the National Conference this year in Houston. Place and time still TBD, but look on the call boards for us when you get down there.
Thanks again, Jimmy,
Cole
Cole and Cat in New
Zealand. I can’t say as that makes me terribly happy, having the kids that far away. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know they’re not really my kids, but still…
Next up we have a quickie, so to speak, from Chris Leffel.
Hey Jimmy,
I've a got a quick little note for the Notes:
Teatro Delle Muse is opening the world premiere of First Kiss by local playwright Rick A. Elina this week. Featuring yours truly as lighting designer. First Kiss is a story about Tim and his adventures in life and love. It's a great show, not really for the kids, but if mom and dad are looking for a good night of local theatre, check out this show. It opens this Friday night, 10/5
and runs Fri, Sat. and Sun through the 14th in downtown Plano.
Great job as always on
the notes, Jimmy!

Okay Metroplexers, you should check it out. It sounds like a Plano good time. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.
Kim Pember sent Jonathan Marks (who says he’s plugging away at “A Chorus Line” – shouldn’t that be tapping away?) a link to an article in the Salado Village Voice. Since you have to download the entire magazine in order to get to the article I just copied it for you, minus the picture because, well, email is not always reliable. Plus, Kim says that they didn’t know they were having the pictures taken, and while in my opinion she looks just fine, the costuming and set up was not, perhaps, as complete as one might have hoped.
Shakespearian Battle of the Sexes at Tablerock
Tablerock Festival of Salado will present William Shakespeare’s classic comedy about the battle of the sexes, ‘Taming of the Shrew’, to be performed on the main stage at the Goodnight Amphitheater Oct. 6, 13 and 20.
Petruchio vows that he will tame the shrewish Katharina and marry her, so that her younger sister, Bianca, may be married to one of her
many suitors. This battle of wills leaves the audience laughing out loud, as they wonder who really tamed who. All performances will take place at 7:30 pm, Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for military, students, and children. Gates will open at 7:00 each evening. Tickets will be available at the gate, or are available now online at www.tablerock.org. There are limited fixed seats available on site in the amphitheater. Bring a pillow or blanket to make yourself comfortable.
The play is to be directed by David Dunlap, of Salado, and is the fifth production of Tablerock’s annual
Fall Shakespeare Festival. For additional information on performances, tickets, or directions, please contact David Dunlap at 254-247-0220 or ddunlap@tablerock.org.
This year’s production stars Kim Pember of Belton as Katharina, Anna Easterling of Georgetown as Bianca, and Justin Golden of Temple as Petruchio.
Well, and who doesn’t enjoy a good battle of the sexes? So if you’re near Salado…
And finally, a situation that comes as a complete surprise to me. Gary Walters wants to have a party.
Attention DFW area
Players: how 'bout we get together and re-live our sordid past? Would like to put together a mini-reunion for those around the Dallas area.
E-mail me at geewalt@mac.com and let's see if something might come of it. If there's enough interest I'll put something together and go from there. Thanks.

Okay, I’ll stop with the sarcasm thing. I’ve said it before, and I stand by it. Partying with either or both of the Walters brothers is an occasion not to be missed. Zap that email right off and lets get the party rollin’!
That’s it for this time.
Don’t forget to check the board as you leave!
